Verano’s George Archos On Navigating A Transformative Year For Cannabis

The cannabis industry is moving through a rare period when policy, capital markets, and operations are all shifting at once. For companies with a national scale, the challenge is staying ahead of changes that could redefine the competitive landscape. That is the environment Verano Holdings is preparing for in 2026, a year founder and CEO George Archos says has “the potential to be one of the most transformative years for the legal cannabis industry and overall drug policy reform in our nation’s history.” Those themes will be part of the broader conversation when industry leaders meet in Chicago for IgniteIt’s Cannabis Capital Conference on June 15 and 16.

Verano is one of the country’s largest multistate operators, with active operations in 13 states, 14 production facilities, and a cultivation capacity of more than 1.1 million square feet. The company’s retail presence spans medical and adult-use markets under the Zen Leaf and MÜV banners, supported by a portfolio of consumer brands including Savvy, Essence, Encore, BITS, Avexia, and others.

Positioning Ahead of Federal and State Shifts

Archos tells IgniteIt that Verano has been executing a strategy designed to anticipate growth and prepare for opportunities in U.S. capital markets. Recent steps include redomiciling the company from Canada to Nevada, initiating a share repurchase program of up to $20 million, applying for DEA registration for its state‑licensed medical operations, and completing a 1‑for‑5 reverse stock split to support a potential listing on a major U.S. exchange.

While the industry waits for broader reforms, the Schedule III designation is already reshaping Verano’s medical business. The company operates 115 medical‑only Zen Leaf and MÜV dispensaries across Florida, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and West Virginia. Those stores account for more than two-thirds of Verano’s national retail footprint, and medical sales represented 60% of first-quarter revenue.

Archos also points to Texas as a key future market. As a conditional vertical license winner, Verano expects to serve the state’s 30 million residents as officials prepare to expand the TCUP medical program.

“While we await additional reforms that may finally unlock the industry’s full potential, the game-changing Schedule III designation provides immediate benefits to our existing medical business,” Archos writes in an email.

Why Archos’ Perspective Matters in Chicago

Verano’s scale and multistate operations give Archos a broad view of how policy and market timing intersect with day‑to‑day execution. His presence in Chicago adds depth to discussions about capital markets, regulatory change, and the operational realities of running a national platform. Leaders like Archos, who are positioning their companies for the next phase of growth, will help shape the conversations at IgniteIt’s flagship Cannabis Capital Conference.
