Cronos Has a $1 Billion War Chest. Zuanic Sees Up to 3x Upside

Altria’s 42% stake, positive cash flow, and a discounted valuation underpin the analyst’s bullish outlook through 2027.

Cannabis equity analyst Pablo Zuanic initiated coverage of Cronos Group (NASDAQ: CRON) with an Overweight rating on October 13, projecting that the company’s shares could double or triple by year-end 2027.

In his 60-page report, Zuanic identifies Cronos’ balance sheet as a competitive advantage in an industry increasingly shaped by consolidation.

The company holds approximately $827 million in cash, deposits and investments, plus another $108 million in net operating loss assets and other receivables. Together, those resources underpin the roughly $1 billion financial war chest highlighted by the analyst.

Tobacco giant Altria owns 42% of Cronos and, under its shareholder agreement, has designated the company as its sole cannabis investment vehicle.

The Valuation Gap

Zuanic estimates that Cronos trades at just 0.4 times 2026 sales and 2.3 times EBITDA on a current enterprise-value basis.

On his forward estimates, the multiples stand at 1.5 times 2027 sales and 5.6 times EBITDA, falling to 3.6 times projected 2028 EBITDA.

The company generated $53 million in second-quarter revenue, up 58% year over year and 17% sequentially. Gross margins expanded to 54%, compared with 43% a year earlier, while adjusted EBITDA margins reached 25%.

Cronos is profitable on an adjusted EBITDA basis and generating positive cash flow, with minimal net debt.

Zuanic expects EBITDA margins to reach 25%–30% as the business scales. Capital expenditures totaled $3.6 million in the first half of 2026, compared with $26 million for all of 2025.

Consolidation and U.S. Expansion

Cronos currently generates approximately $210 million in annualized revenue, potentially increasing to $260 million following its pending acquisition of Dutch producer CanAdelaar.

Zuanic argues that its balance sheet could also support U.S. expansion, depending on federal regulatory developments and Nasdaq listing considerations.

His projected 2–3x share-price upside by December 2027 is based on valuation assumptions for 2028 and does not incorporate additional acquisition opportunities or a broader cannabis-sector rerating.

The analyst does not assign a formal price target.

Cronos’ financial position raises broader questions about how capital, valuations and consolidation will reshape the cannabis industry. These issues will be central to discussions at IgniteIt’s Capital & Policy Summit in Washington, D.C., on November 18, where industry executives, investors and policymakers will examine the forces shaping the sector’s next phase of growth.
