FundCanna and Apex Target Cannabis’ $4 Billion Receivables Problem

A new partnership between FundCanna and Apex Trading aims to address one of the cannabis industry’s most persistent financial bottlenecks: delayed payments.

The companies announced Thursday that FundCanna’s ReadyPaid Buy Now, Pay Later platform will be integrated directly into Apex Trading’s wholesale marketplace, allowing sellers to receive immediate payment while buyers gain access to extended payment terms at checkout.

The move brings financing tools directly into a platform that serves more than 4,000 cannabis operators and facilitates over $150 million in monthly gross merchandise volume.

A Liquidity Problem, Not A Demand Problem

The partnership is designed to address a challenge that many cannabis operators know well.

According to Whitney Economics, the industry currently faces nearly $4 billion in delinquent accounts receivable, making unpaid invoices one of the sector’s largest financial concerns.

“Unlike most industries, cannabis operators don’t have consistent access to traditional credit, and extended payment terms are common between suppliers and retailers,” said FundCanna Founder and CEO Adam Stettner.

“That leaves billions of dollars tied up in receivables, squeezing sellers on liquidity and limiting how much buyers can actually purchase. That’s not a demand problem, it’s a liquidity problem.”

Historically, cannabis suppliers have often acted as lenders for their customers, extending payment terms while absorbing the risk of delayed payments and defaults.

ReadyPaid shifts that dynamic by allowing sellers to get paid immediately while buyers repay over time.

Why It Matters

For sellers, the value proposition is straightforward: faster payments, stronger cash flow, and less credit risk.

For buyers, the system creates additional purchasing flexibility, allowing retailers to align payments more closely with product sell-through rather than available cash on hand.

FundCanna believes the result could be larger orders, increased transaction volume, and stronger relationships throughout the supply chain.

“Sellers in cannabis have effectively been acting as the bank for the supply chain,” Stettner said. “This partnership changes that dynamic.”

The integration also gives Apex clients access to FundCanna’s automated prequalification tools, allowing operators to quickly assess financing availability and access additional working capital products when needed.

A Sign Of Cannabis Financial Infrastructure Maturing

Beyond the immediate benefits for Apex users, the partnership reflects a broader trend within the cannabis industry.

As operators continue facing limited access to traditional banking and credit markets, specialized financial products are increasingly being developed to solve industry-specific problems.

“Our goal at Apex Trading has always been to make the cannabis supply chain more efficient and connected,” said Apex Founder and CEO John Manlove.

“By integrating FundCanna’s ReadyPaid, we’re giving buyers and sellers a seamless financial solution that helps them transact more confidently and grow without being constrained by short-term liquidity.”

The companies expect adoption across Apex’s marketplace to increase transaction volume while helping operators manage cash flow more effectively.

For an industry where billions remain tied up in unpaid invoices, improving liquidity may prove just as important as finding new customers.
