Cresco Labs Q3 2026 Earnings Results: Revenue Hits $173 Million, but Operating Profit Drops 40%

Burn After Reading The 30-second intel for operators and investors

Cresco Labs posts Q3 2026 revenue of $172.8 million, up 4.8%, but operating income falls 40.2% to $10.7 million as costs outpace sales. Free cash flow climbs to $21.2 million from negative $1 million a year earlier.

  • Operators: Cost of goods sold rose 9% and SG&A 11.8%, both faster than 4.8% revenue growth, cutting gross margin to 46% from 48.1%. Cresco shows that top-line growth does not guarantee profit without cost discipline.
  • Investors: Adjusted EBITDA fell 12.3% to $34.9 million, and interest expense of $15.7 million exceeds operating income. Cash flow improved sharply, but $454 million in long-term debt against $75.8 million in cash remains a key risk.
  • Do now: Compare your own cost growth against revenue growth for the latest quarter, and flag any cost line rising faster than sales before it erodes margin.

Cresco Labs reported higher revenue and sharply improved free cash flow in the third quarter, but declining gross margins, rising operating costs, and lower adjusted EBITDA point to continued pressure on profitability.

Cresco Labs Inc. (CSE: CL; OTCQX: CRLBF) reported third-quarter 2026 net revenue of $172.8 million, an increase of 4.8% from $164.9 million a year earlier, while GAAP net losses narrowed to $14.5 million from $22 million.

The Chicago-based cannabis operator generated $34.9 million in adjusted EBITDA, down 12.3% from $39.8 million in the third quarter of 2025. Adjusted EBITDA margin declined to 20.2% from 24.1%.

The company’s operating income fell 40.2% year-over-year, from $17.8 million to $10.7 million, despite higher sales.

The results reveal a growing gap between revenue performance and operating profitability, even as Cresco delivered substantial improvements in cash generation.

Revenue Growth Fails to Translate Into Higher Operating Profit

Cresco’s gross profit remained virtually unchanged at $79.5 million, compared with $79.4 million a year earlier.

However, gross margin declined to 46% from 48.1%, reflecting higher costs relative to revenue.

Cost of goods sold increased 9% year-over-year to $93.3 million, outpacing the company’s 4.8% revenue growth.

Selling, general and administrative expenses rose 11.8% to $57.7 million from $51.6 million, representing 33.4% of revenue.

The company also reported $3.7 million in share-based compensation and $7.4 million in depreciation and amortization within operating expenses. On an adjusted basis, SG&A reached $54.2 million, up from $47.7 million a year earlier.

Adjusted gross profit declined slightly to $80.9 million from $80.5 million, while adjusted gross margin contracted to 46.8% from 48.8%.

Net Loss Narrows, but Interest and Taxes Remain Significant

Cresco reported a GAAP net loss of $14.5 million, compared with a $22 million loss in the prior-year quarter.

The improvement occurred despite lower operating income.

In the third quarter of 2025, Cresco recorded $13.8 million in other expenses, compared with just $181,000 in other income in the latest quarter. This difference helped narrow the year-over-year net loss.

Interest expense increased to $15.7 million from $14.1 million, exceeding the company’s $10.7 million in operating income.

Cresco also recorded $9.7 million in income tax expense.

The company reported a pretax loss of $4.8 million, illustrating the continued financial burden of interest and taxation on its operations.

Adjusted EBITDA of $34.9 million excludes interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization, along with certain acquisition-related costs, share-based compensation and other adjustments. While adjusted EBITDA remained positive, it declined from $39.8 million a year earlier and $39.5 million in the second quarter of 2026.

Free Cash Flow Climbs to $21 Million

Cash generation was the strongest component of Cresco’s quarterly performance.

The company reported $26.1 million in operating cash flow, compared with $6.2 million a year earlier and $15.4 million in the previous quarter.

Free cash flow reached $21.2 million, compared with negative $1 million in the third quarter of 2025.

Capital expenditures declined to approximately $5 million from $7.2 million a year earlier.

“Q3 delivered revenue of $173 million, up 5% year-over-year, and $26 million in operating cash flow, converting over 60% of Adjusted EBITDA into free cash flow,” said Charlie Bachtell, CEO of Cresco Labs.

“The Cresco team executed this quarter as we closed an acquisition, improved cultivation, and ramped up a new state, all while keeping the base business running at a high level.”

Debt Reaches $454 Million While Cash Remains Below $76 Million

Cresco ended September with approximately $75.8 million in cash, cash equivalents and restricted cash, according to its quarterly cash flow statement.

The company reported $454 million in long-term notes and loans payable, leaving a substantial debt burden relative to its available cash.

Interest expense alone consumed approximately 90% of quarterly operating cash flow before capital expenditures.

Cresco’s summarized balance sheet showed total liabilities of approximately $1 billion against $1.25 billion in assets.

Shareholders’ equity stood at $252.2 million, largely unchanged from the end of 2025.

The company also reported approximately 508.2 million shares outstanding on a fully converted basis.

Corporate Restructuring and Potential U.S. Uplisting

Beyond its quarterly financial performance, Cresco is preparing for a potential transition to a major U.S. stock exchange.

The company said shareholders approved three special resolutions with more than 94% support, intended to simplify its corporate structure and align it more closely with U.S. investors.

“Last quarter we said we were doing everything within our control so that when federal regulations allow, we will be ready for our next chapter,” Bachtell said.

“That said, we do not build our plan around reform timelines. The business stands on its own, and Cresco will be ready to act when the next phase arrives.”

Cresco CEO Charlie Bachtell is scheduled to participate in IgniteIt’s Cannabis Capital & Policy Summit on November 18 at the Grand Hyatt Washington in Washington, D.C. The event will bring together cannabis executives, investors, and policymakers to examine federal reform, access to institutional capital, industry consolidation, and the financial decisions shaping the sector’s next phase.
